happy boxing day - get ready to nourish your body & soul

Happy Boxing Day
Happy Juicy Boxing Day Lovely,

How are you feeling today? Much of the city is "back at it" today but there still remains a very festive feeling and we keep-on-keeping-on for another week 'til New Year! It's a long stretch from Thanksgiving to the end of the year and I reckon we ought to be proud of ourselves for showing up. So brava to us!

I really enjoyed gathering with you in our Friends of Stiggly Group - I hope some of the daily offerings helped you navigate your way through the social season and you keep applying them. That page remains open.
I've received a lot of emails this past week asking about my next cleanse, mostly with a hint of "can you make it asap!" - so yes, fear not, we get started cleansing & nourishing and shifting our attention back to wellness, in just less than 2 weeks! Class starts on 8th January (which just so happens to be my big epic milestone birthday!)... but I highly recommend signing-up ahead of time, because there will be preparation emails sent out beforehand to help you get set-up.
It really seems that no matter how hard we try to avoid it, and how much self-care we include, the holiday-season can still take it's toll. And this is why I like to kick-off the new year with such a class. We use this time to reset our unique wellness buttons, bring health and vitality back into focus, and spend time contemplating and making plans for our goals & intentions for 2018. It's a really good inward bound adventure.

A Stiggly "cleanse" is a little unusual as far as cleanses go, in that there is a lot of emphasis on nourishment, coziness, and focusing our attention on what makes us feel good - instead of working with a deprivation mindset. And we work together in community with the idea that this class will set us up with good habits going forward - instead of thinking this is a "3 week challenge to conquer".  It is about food, of course, but it's about all the other good lifestyle stuff too - including our home/work/social environments, our monkey-mind, the way we move our bodies, how plugged in we are... and much more.

This post-holiday cleanse is a popular one, no matter which hemisphere you find yourself on, regardless of ice-storm or heat wave... because most of us are ready to put aside the mince-pies & eggnog and get back to our preferred belt-buckle-hole! And to take on the new year feeling our very best selves! I'm ready myself... hope you'll join me!

We begin on 8th January and run for three weeks. It's incremental, starting with a warm-up week. I present lots of offerings to appeal to different learning styles, life-chapters and personalities. And I continue to offer a sliding scale, keeping my work available to a wider range of lovelies.

Inward bound adventuring & celebrating the rebirth of the sun!

Inward bound adventuring &
celebrating the rebirth of the sun!
Good Morning Lovely,

There is a tendency for this week to feel really stressful and exhausting for a lot of people. Long to-do lists on which everything is marked urgent, not enough sleep, demands from all directions... and all of this paired with an innate desire to stay home, get cozy and go inwards.

Yesterday was the new moon and this Thursday is the winter solstice. The darkest days. A time for more sleep and more cozy. And yet the way we live in modern society finds us pulled in the opposite direction - parties, traveling, socializing, being "on". (Oh and Mercury is in retrograde!)

In the Friends of Stiggly group, I have been offering nuggets each day to try and counterbalance all of this stress and to honour the inward bound season. I find that even through busy times we can invite in small doses of kindness to ourselves that help us from being all-consumed.

I invite you now to really contemplate the darkness - the lack of moon light, the long hours of night time, and honour that indeed this is part of our cycle. That we need the quiet and the dark - as a time to reflect and ponder. The earth is dormant in preparation for the growing season ahead, and we can do the same.  As a lifecycle celebrant I am really interested in ritual. Not only the big lifecycle milestones, but also the daily, monthly, seasonal. Ritual helps us notice, get present, move through transitions.

Each year my husband and I celebrate the solstice (not always on the day but close) with a flaming pagan pudding party - celebrating community, light and love. But I also love the rituals that are small, personal, made-up. And I urge you to join me in this one.

Find a time to be alone. Play some music that feeds your soul, sip some tea, get cozy. Get some paper and start writing down the things you would like to invite into your life. On a different piece of paper write down things you would like to release and let go of, or that you know you must let go of, in order to make space for things on the first list.

The winter solstice is the darkest day, but it is also a celebration of the rebirth of the sun. The days will gradually start to lengthen and with the light we can start to feel more optimistic, hopeful, confident.  Having a vision for what we want our lives to look like, and coming to terms with what no longer serves us, can help us move forward.

Once you have written your lists, decide what you want to do with list one - place it in your 2018 diary as inspiration? Post it on your wall, mail it to yourself?  And then, create a little release ceremony with list number two. If you have a fire place - perhaps you would like to burn it, if you have a yard - perhaps you would like to bury it, if you live in an urban environment maybe you can shred it to small pieces ceremoniously. No matter how, find a way to let go of that list, see those things vanishing from your life. Be present for yourself and with yourself for this. Make it fun, make it yours.
And I know, I know, no matter how hard we try to avoid it, and how much self care we include, the holiday season can still take it's toll, and that is why I have a Nourish class which starts on January 8th. We use this time to reset the wellness button, and focus on our goals & intentions for 2018. It's a really good inward bound adventure.  Sign up here:

make this the juiciest of juicy Tuesdays

Wishing you the Juiciest of Tuesdays!
Lovely You!

It's Tuesday, so let's be playful and invite in the concept of juiciness, fluidity, curiosity, and wonder. The world is confusing and we are bombarded with information - much of it negative and difficult to comprehend. We are tired, achey, overwhelmed and overworked.  Yet there is also so much beauty around us that our attention is not being drawn to.

It's the holiday season, but for real that doesn't have to mean a shopping-list of stress & bills, over-eating & regret!
Today, can you try to look at the world through fresh lenses? Look up, look around, ask questions, wonder, feel excited and delighted.
What juiciness can you invite in to enrich this day?
Maybe the juiciness is literal - indulge in a beautiful drippy red pomegranate, just for you - and let it be sticky and messy?  Prepare yourself an amazing massaged kale salad with lots of goodies thrown in (avocado!) for your dinner - use all your senses and be fully present to enjoy it.
How about going for a walk in your lunch hour, explore something or somewhere new and fun? Notice the trees in winter, look for some squirrels to entertain you, say hello to someone you pass often - a street vendor, a crossing guard....
Can you try something you never have before? Re-arrange some furniture, wear an outfit a new way, walk a different route home from work, walk backwards some of the way, move things around on your desk, eat something else for lunch, invite someone to join you or eat in silence, sit facing a different direction, wear your undies inside out & back to front - or go commando, wear odd socks, buy yourself flowers, start a conversation with someone you've only ever smiled at?
Notice the way the ground feels under your feet, the touch of the door-handle or tap, the sound of a metro card swipe... try to tune in and notice the things we usually don't.
You don't always have to literally stand on your head to look at life from a fresh angle (though that is fun too).
Breathe some juicy, life-giving, endorphin-inducing, bright, brilliant energy into your whole being today.
Maybe, just maybe, it will feel a bit like you are faking it 'til you're making it, but really, the world is a wonderful place when our hearts are open. So let's give it a try!

May your day be juicy!
And for some daily inspiration this season, join the group Friends of Stiggly Holistics on Facebook.
And it's not too early to sign up for our January Nourish & Cleanse class which is going to be a delicious inward bound adventure.

Fabulous holiday gift idea here!

So much Love,

Delicious good stuff.... home made sugar scrubs, free nourish class!

Deliciousness!
oh so much good stuff...

Happy Juicy Tuesday Lovely You!

I've got a delicious Juicy for you today but before I dive in, I want to remind you, in case you missed it last week, that my FREE nourish program is happening right now. I wanted to offer a little holiday gift to all of you - my lovely regular readers, cleansers and clients - to help you navigate this season, which can often be stressful. We just got started yesterday and it's not too late to jump in. Tell your friends, family and co-workers too, because it's so much more fun and inspiring in company. Maybe you can have your whole office hydrating and taking hourly stretch breaks! All you have to do is join the group Friends of Stiggly Holistics  on Facebook, and follow along with the wellness prompts I post each day. Consider it a daily nourishing "challenge" if you like. I'm your friendly guide on the side, and it's my intention to help you reduce the stress, increase the joy, and be a little  more present for (and with) yourself leading up to the holidays. See you in the group!
Now, without further ado..... as you know from time to time Juicy Tuesday features a wonderful guest chef. Today I would like to introduce you to the founder of Little Bites of Joy, the very lovely Andreea Fegan, who today kindly shares her amazing & beautiful recipe for sugar-scrub. These make such great holiday gifts and I urge you to run out, get the ingredients and start whipping these up pronto. You will make your gift recipients VERY happy, (and shhh! don't tell them, but it is super easy to make as well).  But don't only give them away, be sure to make a batch or two for yourself. I shall be making a batch for myself this evening! This kind of hand-made gift is right up my alley. It's fun to make, you get to avoid the shopping crowds, no landfill waste, grateful recipient.... all good stuff!
Andreea and I met while taking a herbology course a few years ago, and we are definitely kindred spirits - our tastes, interests and ways-of-being in the world are very much in sync! She happens also to be a beautiful photographer, and she'll have you drooling with her imagery alone! Take it away Andreea:
Little Bites of Joy's Winter-Hands Lavender Vanilla Sugar Scrub:

"I'll confess - I have dry hands in the winter. Um, who doesn't? And if you're a normal human being, you probably do too. It might be the gardener in me, the pianist who just plays and plays and plays (they get a beating!), or it may be that I dislike using gloves when I wash dishes (I know, I know, don't judge). But for so many reasons, when the heat comes on in the fall and winter, my hands shrivel up and it's so so important to take good care of them ~ meaning, when we age, we mostly show it on our face and our hands. So it's important to take good care of them, just as much as they take good care of us and others. It's a good idea to use humidifiers in the winter months to hydrate the air around you, too. But overall, I dislike general moisturizers since my skin is sensitive, and I do very well by these two recipes.

I'm sure there are 1,000 sugar scrub recipes out there, all of which are worthy of a post, but these two are just my own personal favorites. You can certainly use these as templatesand add in your own favorite oil combos, change up the oil (sweet almond and jojoba are great oils also), add in dried lavender leaves, poppy seeds for extra exfoliant properties ~ most of all, have fun, and play around with them. But these two recipes, I've found, are quick, easy, and just luxurious for the hands. Enjoy! And if you do end up making them, let me know how they turn out and hashtag #littlebitesofjoy on social media.
blessings to you all lovely souls, and happy creating! Andreea xx"

Recipe:
3/4 cups raw sugar
Enough unrefined pure olive oil for desired consistency (think 1/2 - 3/4 cup or so)
10 drops Young Living Lavender Essential Oil
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
How To:
Mix together well and bottle it up in your favorite glass container. (stiggly note: have fun making cute labels to decorate)
Use:
I love keeping this by the sink and in the bathroom for after washing the hands. Take about one teaspoon and massage your hands well (but not too hard), and give them some love. Rinse under warm water, and dry well. You'll find that your hands are silky smooth and well nourished!
Alternate recipe:
Instead of the vanilla extract, try adding in 10 drops Young Living Lemon essential oil. The result is a gorgeous lavender/lemon sugar scrub.

Free nourish program leading up to the holidays!!!

Take good care of yourself!
(And I'm here to help)

Happy Juicy Tuesday Beautiful!

Well the "holiday season" is officially in motion and I don't know about you but I am starting to feel a buzz of anxious energy around me. It has become the cultural norm to find the holidays stressful, which is a bummer (for so many reasons). I think part of that stress comes from the huge commercial angle (pressure to buy, buy, buy), the overload of sugary treats, and that we start hearing Christmas songs as soon as the Halloween costumes are put away. Extending the season like that seems to be a sure way to have holiday-burn-out even before it's really started!

Stress is so not-good! It is right up there with smoking, scrolling, too much sitting, too much sugar, and not eating well - when it comes to our health, especially over the long term. And double whammy, when we get stressed we tend to neglect all the stuff that's good for us (which is obviously counterintuitive, but we do it anyway!)

I've had a few requests to run a nourish class in December but I want to honour my own health & wellbeing too, and I don't really have time, so I started wondering "what can I offer?"

I've decided that I would love to offer you all a gift, for FREE! As a thank you for reading my Juicy Tuesday regularly, for supporting my business, to celebrate ten years (and change) of Stiggly... and to do my tiny part in reducing the general stress levels in the world around us!

Starting next Monday 4th December, for two weeks, I am going to run a FREE mini nourish program in the Facebook group: Friends of Stiggly Holistics (kindly created by a regular Stiggly cleanser and client - thank you Shannon) to help you navigate the season a little better.

In the group I will be posting wellness tips that you can easily fit into your day. These tips will include things you already know but may have forgotten to apply to yourself lately. There will be reminders to drop your shoulders, sip some water, get up and stretch, breathe, chew, and the odd recipe to help balance out dessert-and-cocktail overload. The focus will be on adding good stuff in rather than a list of what not to do!

All you need to do is join the group, and check in daily - starting next Monday. No formal sign-up, no payment, no pressure, no emails. Short, sweet, community oriented. There will be one or perhaps two posts a day from yours truly.

I will be your guide on the side, to help you reduce the stress, increase the joy, and be a little  more present for, and with yourself leading up to the holidays.

Obviously it won't be anywhere near as involved as my nourish classes, (I have one of those planned for January 8th!)but it will hopefully be helpful.  Important note - I don't plan on offering my work for free in the future, it's too precious, and you are too precious & worthy of investing in (and hey, I'm precious too!), but I am feeling grateful and generous, and would really love to help you bring your shoulders away from your ears as you unfurrow that lovely brow... and help you to experience more Joy this holiday.
See you in the group!

And while on the subject of self-care, and treating yourself like the precious being you are... I want to invite you to a women's retreat in Mexico in March, led by two fabulous Stiggly Cleanse & Nourish regulars/alumni who I just adore - Jeannie Ralston and Kim Cihlar of Next Tribe.
The price is going up next week, so I wanted to let you know about the VIP, "in-crowd" special-price that's currently available. Who doesn't fancy a seven-day yoga-retreat in the stunningly gorgeous location of Troncones Beach, Mexico. There will also be photography and writing classes available as part of the package if you should so choose. It's gonna be good!  More info here:
And please, do check out the Next Tribe magazine while you are browsing, it's great!

Now, Helen Kane was the Stiggly Holistics of 1929 and she has a little message for you all....

"Take Good Care of Yourself!"
Have the most delicious week my lovely!
Take care of lovely you, and do join me, it'll be fun!

So much Love,
